From preschool to college, the three best bros have been through it all together. Noka Treuer, Gustav Kraatz, and Everett Lethem formed their trio in preschool, not even remembering a time when they were not in each other’s lives.
“I don’t even remember meeting Everett, he was just in my life,” Treuer said. “ I’ve just been with them for as long as I can remember.”
Growing up together, they share numerous stories of embarrassing moments and photos making this article last a lifetime, so for times’ sake, a few of their highlighted memories were when Lethem saved Kraatz from a skinned knee by skinning his knee instead, traps at Larkin park (sorry Noka), trips to Kraatz’s house after school and then Lethem’s house after middle school.
“It’s crazy to think the boys I grew up playing Legos with, I’m now graduating with,” Lethem said.
Remarking on just how long their friendship has lasted, the boys are all excited to graduate together and disperse across the country in the fall. Going to the East Coast, Treuer plans to attend New York University to major in jazz studies while focusing on jazz drum sets. The Midwest will soon welcome Lethem as he attends Kenyon College in Ohio, where he plans to major in history. The final member of the best bros, Kraatz, will attend Colorado School of Mines as a mechanical engineering major. Kraatz also plans to participate in the first-year semester abroad program, where he will spend his second semester of freshman year in Antibes, France.
“Though we will be spread apart, I don’t think that separates our bond,” Treuer said. “The distance makes the heart grow fonder.”
With the best bros all going their separate ways in the fall, they look forward to cross-country road trips with all their friends, from California to New York. Starting in Berkeley with Teo Robar and Silas Treuer and making stops along the way to pick up Kraatz and Lethem, ending in Manhattan to meet up with Treuer. When they were asked what the three best words to describe the three best bros were, they all agreed that their friendship could only be defined as none other than “eternal, consistent, and passionate.”
Finally, the trio would like to shout out some of their friends and loved ones.
“To Everett and Gus, Elliot, my brother Silas aka Silo, and my girlfriend Megan,” Treuer said.
“Shout out to Jonathan Lethem, my girlfriend Heidi Dempsey, Silas Treuer, and Milo Pucci,” Kraatz said.
“To my girlfriend Kate Mitchell, a shout out to Brian Kraatz, and to Noka for being the chain linking us together,” Lethem said.
