Everyone at CHS has heard of Serenity Hamilton-whether it be through her impressive Speech and Debate accomplishments or hearing the literal sound of her crashing out during orchestra rehearsal. Jokes aside, that duality sums up Hamilton perfectly: She is hilarious and talented on many levels. Now, she’s headed to Brown University this fall with an $80,000 partial scholarship.
“I’m double-majoring in Political Science and Psychology,” Hamilton said. “I’ve also been selected for their Presidential Scholars Program, so I’ll be doing a lot of research. After college, I’ll probably go into law school and pursue a career path to become a judge.”
Although Speech has played a major role in Hamilton’s high school experience, Brown does not offer a Speech program. However, she is excited to explore other passions.
“I mean, they don’t have Speech at Brown, so maybe I’ll try orchestra,” Hamilton said. “I might try to find an independent orchestra, since I know some people there.”
As Hamilton wraps up her high school journey, she would like to shout out some important figures that have shaped her high school experience. “Shoutout to Jiseo Park my favorite freshman, shoutout to Avie our awesome section leader, shoutout to Kaitlyn Zhang just ‘cause she’s Kaitlyn Zhang my goat, shoutout to Samuel Kim for being big, shoutout to Denise whose real name is Elise, and shoutout to Vivian for being a baddie,” Hamilton said.
Finally, Hamilton would like to leave some advice for students, especially juniors and seniors.
“I kinda just said ‘YOLO’ throughout my entire high school experience, and it actually worked out pretty well,” Hamilton said. “But if you’re a junior [or senior], I’d recommend trying out the Posse Scholarship because even if you don’t get selected and you’re a finalist, you can still put it under National recognition and it kinda boosted my application.”
Hamilton hopes that everyone reading this article takes her words of wisdom to heart, as it greatly helped her experience in high school. Hamilton will be greatly missed, but this new and exciting chapter of her life awaits.
