Any student searching for a friendly face on campus is sure to find one in room 716. Ms. Moule has established herself as a passionate, supportive, and involved teacher throughout her 34 years teaching at CHS. As she approaches retirement, the Wolfpacket and CHS wish her nothing but the best.
Moule started her teaching career as a PE coach at a small private school in 1982. She quickly realized that teaching kids and forming strong connections with the youth was something she loved. After substituting for different districts and coaching several successful softball teams, Moule searched for a long term substitute position. Claremont had an opening, and Moule wasted no time seizing the opportunity. In 1991, Moule was officially hired and began teaching Environmental Science and Biology.
As Moule’s career progressed, so did her curiosity. She branched out to teach a plethora of science classes including anatomy, geology, forensics, and physical science. However, when IB Sports Exercise and Health Science was introduced in 2012, it immediately caught Moule’s attention, as it was a perfect combination of her interests.
“I think my favorite class to teach is definitely the sports and exercise science and also anatomy,” Moule said. “It’s my background, and I really enjoy the subject and the topics.”
Moule is known around campus for being an incredibly involved teacher. She is not only an amazing teacher but also a friend to all. Moule is truly dedicated to connecting with her students, whether it is performing alongside them at the teacher comedy sports match or asking them how a competition went over the weekend. The enthusiasm Moule brings to the classroom is clearly reflected in her teaching and interactions with her pupils.
“I love the interaction with you guys,” Moule said. “The crux of it is that I get energy from meeting new people. Sometimes it is a challenge, but you know, it is a growth process for both them and me. I realize I am really going to miss that.”
Moule explains that even 20 years later, she still has exciting encounters with her past students. The impact that Moule has made on both students and faculty is immeasurable. From being a superstar in the annual teacher dance, to sparking prank wars with her Science Department friends, Moule has truly brought a sense of whimsical joy to everyone on campus.
“Well, I think it’s important to know your subject and have the ability to teach it, but what’s more important than anything is just connecting with the kids,” Moule said. “What’s important is making sure that they understand that you enjoy what you’re doing.”
She explains that she does not remember the algebra equations or the test scores she received in high school, but rather it was the funky traditions and the community she was surrounded by that truly created lasting memories.
“That’s what high school is,” Moule said. “High school is such an important time because you guys are growing up. It’s about making a safe place to be and it’s fun to be a part of that.”
She encourages other teachers to create an environment that students can not only thrive in academically, but form lasting relationships and impactful moments that are bound to turn into nostalgia.
Moule would like to thank her ‘core science peeps’, Ms. Mittman, Ms. Tran, and Mrs. Lee, as well as Mrs. Kusano for all of the camaraderie and friendship. And although she moves on from CHS, Moule’s impact on her students certainly lives on. The Wolfpacket wishes her the best, thank you so much for 34 amazing years Ms. Moule!
