Starting his career by recording his first songs in a closet with earbuds, d4vd has come from incredibly humble beginnings. However, he has become what many consider to be one of the most polished RnB singers of the modern era. His most famous dips into the industry have left fans hungry for more. Thankfully for his audience, his debut studio album “WITHERED” has finally received a release date for April 25th.
While his musical career is relatively young, d4vd became a celebrity overnight. His hit song “Romantic Homicide,” which was popularized by TikTok and other social media platforms, exploded, standing at 1.4 billion streams on Spotify. Initially, d4vd sought fame within the video game community. The trend of Fortnite montages originally inspired him to become a content creator, and through that outlet he began to create his own music in order to avoid paying royalties.
Nearly a year after releasing “Romantic Homicide”, he began work on his first Extended Play (EP), “Petals to Thorns”. The production was entirely solo, excluding the shocking appearance of the modern jazz artist Laufey. For an artist who was novel at the time, d4vd smashed into the music industry, with “Petals to Thorns” landing at #105 on the Billboard 200 and totaling over three billion streams on Spotify. The intense use of synth and piano echoed throughout the EP, a reflection of modern RnB style. These unique elements provided listeners with a somber yet sweet listening experience. As a teaser for his new album “WITHERED,” d4vd dropped the single “One More Dance”. The song features a conglomerate of violins, synths, and tambourines. The song was a strong deviation from his usual soft and gloomy style, featuring upbeat and light vocals. Although the musicality may have differed, the bittersweet lyrics still tell a tale of love much like music d4vd had previously published.
Outside of his own musical career, d4vd has become a commonly consulted composer for a variety of soundtracks. The two most notable productions d4vd became a part of were {“Arcane” and “Invincible”, two reputable animated shows (which Wolfpacket has written about). “Feel It”, written for “Invincible”, features an intense chorus that became popular through social media. It now stands at over 250 million streams on Spotify. While originally released for the soundtrack of the show, its iconic chorus resonated with listeners new and old. In a more mystical setting, his single “Remember Me” was arguably the most iconic of the “Arcane” soundtrack. Now sitting at 75 million streams on Spotify, its wistful lyrics of a time gone by captured the attention of the “Arcane” fanbase.
Sitting at the top of the modern RnB genre is an incredibly difficult feat, and d4vd seems to breeze through his competition with ease. Fans across the world are eagerly awaiting his next album; it has the potential to smash through the Billboard 200 and Spotify streams with even greater ferocity than his previous records. Remaining a powerhouse of the music industry, d4vd continues to impress listeners with his sorrowful yet touching lyrics.
