Taking on the responsibilities of being a four-year violinist, speech and debater, StarDew Valley gamer, ArtStarter, family person, full IB student, and a friend to all here at CHS. Mia Phao is leaving her miraculous mark on the world – and her peers. Phao’s story of running for homecoming court was just for fun, expecting nothing too crazy to come of it. She thought it would be a fun idea to do after asking her friends to nominate her, but did not foresee it making it all the way to Homecoming Court.
Besides this new shocking episode of her life, Phao enjoys spending moments she has to spare with her siblings and family, because she values the time that she will not have one year from now.
Outside of spending time with family and friends, her extensive list of extracurriculars includes Project ArtStart, a program helping younger students stay informed about museum-based art pieces. Phao is also a full IB student and enjoys the IB curriculum, believing that it is a very effective method of education — especially for students who want to be a part of hands-on learning and learn best through communication and partnerships.
“I chose to take IB because I’m more of a collaborative learner,” Phao said. “I’m more of a collaborative learner than an independent learner.”
However, she does admit that, at times, the workload can be excessive. Phao plans to major in sociology so that she can become a family mediator after receiving her bachelor’s degree and graduating from, hopefully, one of the San Diego schools.
To anyone considering running for Homecoming Court, Phao advises them in the simplest yet most important way.
“Just do it!”
