Questions:
- What major were you accepted with and why?
- What are you most excited about for college?
- What advice would you give to underclassmen?
- Do you have any shout outs?
Amanda Lai
- Molecular and cellular biology because I’m planning to go on the premed track.
- The furries and finding a rich husband.
- Don’t be afraid to try something new because it’s not that deep. You’re going to graduate in a few years and never see most of these people again so just do whatever you wanna do.
- Shout out to anyone that had to put up with the questionable things that I say because I usually don’t think before I speak.
Serkan Salik
- I was accepted into the college of letters and sciences and will be majoring in mathematics. I’m not sure if the question is asking me why I applied for this major but if that’s the case, it’s because I just like math. I don’t really know why, I just think it’s really neat and “cool”.
- Taking classes from world class professors. The people at Berkeley are literally the cream of the crop (at least in math) so I can’t wait to learn the insights they have into various subfields of math.
- Get good sleep and don’t stress about getting into college. Also, don’t panic about taking “enough APs” or specific AP classes. For example, if you don’t want to take AP Lit, just take English 101. The most important thing is to be pursuing something you’re interested in: don’t force yourself to do extracurriculars you don’t care about. They won’t help you get into college and they will waste your time. Also, get off your phone and stop zombie scrolling.
- Kepha Sher for being my math buddy. Phineus Choi for being someone I can always laugh with.
Andrew Marks
- I got accepted into data science. The reason I applied with that major is that I’m interested in society and hoping to make some big bucks in the future.
- Excited about going bananas in the Bay Area and being part of the inaugural cohort of Berkeley students that will study at Berkeley’s new College of Computing, Data Science, and Society.
- A wise man once told me to get LinkedIn, and I never turned back.
- Thanks to Kepha Sher and Serkan Salik for convincing me to be career-minded and go with Berkeley over UCLA. (I still have lots of love for UCLA, though).
Jannet Ngo
- I was accepted into Molecular and Cell Biology on the pre-medicine track and I’m planning to go to med school in the future.
- I’m most excited to make new friends and gain new experiences. I also want to learn more about myself whether it be challenging myself academically or just trying things I’ve never experienced before.
- My advice would be to just enjoy every moment like it’s your last and appreciate the little things in high school. Just be you, make good memories, and don’t stress about the things that won’t matter later.
- Shoutout to my IB friends for surviving IB with me and for creating a tight knit community with fun memories! I would also like to thank my teammates, coaches, teachers, and family for their support!

- I was accepted as an Engineering undeclared major because I was still unsure on what area I wanted to focus and study on. Regardless, I knew engineering was what I wanted to do, so that major was what I applied for.
- I am most excited to meet new people from all over the world and experience living away from home.
- An advice I would give to underclassmen would be to join the activities you enjoy more than the activities people say that colleges “like.” At the end of the day, it’s still your high school experience and so it’s important to make the most of it.
- I’d like to shout out my parents for supporting me in all of my activities and academics. They always pushed me to be the best I can be while always checking on me to make sure I don’t get burnt out.
