The Wolfpacket Staff Tours LA Times
The Wolfpacket staff members look at the 2,200 pound rolls of recycled paper that the LA Times printing press uses to print its issues.
On Monday, March 31, the Wolfpacket staff went on a field trip to tour the LA Times editorial building and printing plant.
“The tour was informative, entertaining, and especially helpful to Wolfpacket students to see real journalists at work, dedicated to their careers,” the Wolfpacket adviser and English teacher Kevin Glavin said. “Our guide, Darrell Kunitomi, led us through the editorial building, discussing the history of the paper, and how the paper grew as LA grew. Later, we headed over to the printing press, the largest in the US. Believe it or not, despite decreased circulation due to the internet (and other factors), the LA Times goes through some 300 of the giant 2200 pound rolls of recycled paper per day in printing some 720,000 copies, and even more on Sunday. Darrell ended the tour by encouraging the students to apply for internships, and stressing the importance of writing–no matter which career one chooses.”
The majority of the staff members participated in the trip, which proved to be both educational and fun.
