However, some of those interests are absolutely terrifying.
Reddit has become a hub for people to retell their horror stories, whether it be paranormal or true crime. Victims of stalkers, home invasions, and just about anything else, can connect with others who have also experienced similar things. Though it does offer a place for victims to congregate, Reddit also has thousands of subreddits, where perpetrators can connect as well. There are forums that share ways to access the dark web, even drug or human trafficking websites.
Unfortunately, if you know what to look for on Reddit, it is right there. However, if you do not, and you accidentally stumble upon a subreddit that is potentially dangerous, your personal information is at risk. One of the most creepy subreddits that is not affiliated with the dark web, is hacked home security cameras. The most popular brand to hack is Nest Cameras. People from all over the world watch others live their private lives. The victims are completely unaware they may have thousands of people watching them. Since these audiences are international, there are few laws and regulations to stop this from happening.
Although there are many creepy and dangerous aspects of Reddit, the site can be a great way to meet new people. It attracts users from all over the world. Reddit can be quite handy if you left your book at school or you need to set up a specific project. There are also links to calculators and study guides for AP and IB tests. However, most of these are unofficial and should be used carefully, but are still helpful in a pinch.
In short, Reddit can and should be used sparingly and carefully. Follow any internet rules you use for other websites. Do not give anyone your social security number and do not look up TOR. Stay safe out there kids.
