What Really Goes Into Wolfcast?

Wolfcast is one of the most unique classes offered at CHS that many surrounding schools do not offer. Wolfcast is a class where students interested in film making can grow and flourish. Even after long days of memorizing a script or editing a feature, students still continue to thrive in the class creating a better show for the school every day.
“After the first day, I fell in love with it,” Diego Cruz said.
Through the process of selection and continually keeping up with news updates around the school, students involved have to always take big steps forward through keeping up with the news and getting other students involved.
Currently, Cruz is the feature producer; his job is to screen all the features before they air and fix any problems there might be. But producer is not the only position in Wolfcast; students can also be a director, publicist, or show host. Directors help control the class, while publicists get the word about Wolfcast to more individuals. Show hosts take the spotlight and help with transitions throughout the show. Remaining individuals either complete daily assignments of reporting news or creating the features that air every week.
“Mistakes happen, and that’s okay,” Cruz said, “But the fact that everyone learns from them and continues with the class inspires even more students.”
Cruz is currently a senior at CHS, and this is his fourth year in Wolfcast. A day in the class typically begins with a brief review of the previous day’s show. In this review, they touch on all the aspects that created the show, such as a wrong title in a daily announcement, or an editor cutting a clip too short. The director leads this part of the class, before having the wolfpack clap, where all the students join together with one clap to announce the beginning of assignments and mark the end of the classes review. Afterwards, students move onto their computers or cameras to begin editing, or filming a new video. Many of the experienced students move around the class in order to help the newer recruits, which allows for a creation of teamwork since more students interact with each other.
“My favorite part of the class is the teamwork between everyone involved,” Cruz said. Each student becomes responsible for a different aspect of the show, creating an environment of learning and growing. With a multitude of different personalities, each individual is able to shine in their own way.
Throughout all his years in Wolfcast, Cruz and many others have learned many valuable skills in film making, and he now uses those skills to help others make creative videos to share with the world. Overall, the improvements made each year help to create a different dynamic in Wolfcast.
This year, the shows goal is being positive and spreading knowledge around the school. A day in Wolfcast may seem simple to an outsider, but every day new challenges arise with solutions that create a wonderful show for the school to enjoy.
