As Meghan Robles waves a warm goodbye to CHS, she looks toward the Dental Corp of America with a bright smile. For the vast majority of students, college is a standard path to take. However, Homecoming queen and excellent band performer Meghan Robles is anything but ordinary—Robles has decided to join the US Army, following in the inspiring footsteps of her father, who joined the medical field through the Army. Her interest in joining the military was for multiple reasons, including the impact that the experience had on her dad, the more affordable route of receiving education, and the stringent schedule that the Army offers.
Robles has high hopes of learning medical science and dentistry in the dental corps, known as 68 Echo. Additionally, Robles has a proven track record with academics, originally applying for sixteen universities, most of which accepted her. Although these schools welcomed her, she felt obligated with immersed pride to join the program following in her father‘s footsteps.
Robles believes high school has shaped her to be mature.
“I feel like I have gone through different phases through these last four years,” Robles said. “Really, the teachers have shaped me a lot, especially Mr. Hernandez, who has been such a great figure in my life.” Any advice she would give to future high school students is evident through her favorite quote: “Be unapologetically you.”
On advice regarding life beyond high school, Robles’ words are laced with purpose.
“Just have an open mind,” Robles said. “I came into senior year thinking about joining a college and going to a dorm, now I am going to go serve our country. Always know there’s a place for you.”
As Robles leaves for the military, she can not wait to enjoy her experience of learning and serving our country. She would like to shout out Mr. Hernandez for all the support and encouragement he has provided her during high school.
